Remapping, Storefront | 2002
installation at Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York City, 2002

In this work the cantilevered doors of the Steven Holl/Vito Acconci work are covered by stainless steel and visitors to the gallery were asked to adjust the apertures of the door with a special series of fabricated metal handles and rods that could be stuck into holes which made a semi circle on the floor. As such the building became a large cinematic camera producing an infinite number of narratives. Each of the four doors represented a different apparatus with different origins and thereby through their machinic assemblage created an infinite number of possibilities of lighting and viewing.
